MEDICAL EMERGENCIES IN SAT DIVING
QUESTIONS
Have you ever been involved in a medical emergency/cardiac arrest in sat, or in general?
If yes - do you think you were prepared either by training or experience.
How did it make you feel?
If no - How confident would you feel in a medical emergency/cardiac arrest?
Depending on answer - consider training
What are your thoughts on the current training requirements of divers/keeping divers updated sufficiently/how seriously is this taken and regulated
Prompts: specifically medical emergencies/resus etc but looking at
1) the associated costs to the diver/accessible
2) do you think the training is necessary/appropriate and delivered to the right level
What is your background/How did you get into diving/why do the job you do?
There's a good chance that a cardiac arrest, however well managed, will result in a poor outcome in this setting. It's been suggested that given it's very likely futile to do CPR in a bell, maybe we shouldn't do anything. What do you think?
What systems and processes are you aware of that are in place to look after the other divers in a bell or in sat following an incident?
Prompts: psychological trauma, second victim, PTSD etc and do you think this has changed in x y z years
Why do you think it's taken until 2024 to do this work?
Possible additional points
• thoughts on current health screening for divers
• thoughts on current business model of the industry- divers self employed vs PAYE and why
• What is your understanding of the levels of danger/have an understanding of how far from "real medical help" you are?
