The SDM-knowledge questionnaire (SDM-K-Q) is shown on the following pages.
Questionnaire: Shared decision-making
This questionnaire is about ‘shared decision-making’ in healthcare. You may have heard about this before. Patients and healthcare providers think of ‘shared decision-making’ as increasingly important.
With this questionnaire, we aim to understand your knowledge about the topic of ‘shared decision-making.’ The questions are not about your satisfaction with your healthcare provider but rather about what you know about ‘shared decision-making.’
While answering the questions, reflect on the last time you or a loved one discussed a treatment with your doctor in the hospital. Even if you are not currently a patient, we invite you to complete this questionnaire.
Your responses will remain anonymous, ensuring that no one can identify your answers as yours.
Completing the questionnaire will take about 10 minutes.

Based on the literature review of hyperbaric cardiopulmonary resuscitation by Schmitz et al.,12 to which SN and TS also contributed, we modified the search string used to focus on defibrillation during HBOT.
We therefore added the search terms “HBOT”, “defibrillation”, “cardioversion”, and “CPR” to the search string, while removing “chest compression” and “heart massage” from the original search string.
Search string used in databases:
(HBOT OR hyperbaric OR pressure chamber OR decompression) AND (defibrillation OR cardioversion OR ventricular fibrillation OR CPR OR cardiopulmonary resuscitation OR resuscitation OR cardiac arrest OR heart arrestOR ALS OR advanced life support OR life support)
For CINAHL, the literature search was conducted using the “Advanced search” within the search mode “Proximity”. We also used the expanders “Apply related words”, “Also search within the full text of the articles” and “Apply equivalent subjects”. In the Cochrane Library the search was carried out in the “Title Abstract Keyword” category. Word variations were also included. For EMBASE, the search was performed using the “Broad search”, while in PubMed we used the “All Fields” category.
A language filter was applied in order to ensure that only articles in German and English were included. The aforementioned databases independently adapted the search string according to their internal algorithms (see below).

The adapted search strategy was not specified.
